This piece was done for my Advanced Sculpture Workshop class. It's made of plaster, clay, latex paint, acrylic paint, particle board, and a piece yellow duct tape. The assignment was a free-for-all to choose any subject matter or material that we pleased. For my project I decided to continue with my previous subject matter of mistreated animals. This piece, however, is quite different from the others for several reasons. First there is relatively much more debate socially over whether or not domestic cats should be allowed to roam free of restraints. This is unlike a neglected malnourished horse of course, which is widely frowned upon in society. Second difference is the style of the piece. My steel dog and horse were meant to represent fairly accurately the anatomy of the animal in order to show the severity of poor health, where as this piece obviously exaggerates and "cartoon-izes" the animal's anatomy. I made these changes as experimentation.
Preaching...
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has several great articles posted on its web page on the subject of Outdoor Kitties. Example: Your Cat - Indoors or OutSorry to preach, but in my line of work you see very clearly the negativities endured by domestic cats left to wander the streets.
