This piece was painted digitally. I've done several all-digital creature drawings/paintings, and wanted to see if I could do a full fleshed-out still-life painting using similar methods. I started off with an initial sketch (pencil-on-paper) just based on an idea I had for a "south-western" still-life. I then went online looking for reference material that I could combine and rearrange to make a composited still-life. I then created a new sketch based on that rough composite. I then created the painting referencing several other images for surface design (the blanket). I then guesstimated/made-up the color and lighting within/throughout the painting.
Pot-Design
I created the pot design after looking through many many photos of indian pots online (particularly Mimbres pottery). Influenced by some of those images that I had found, I sketched out my own rough design. I then scanned that sketch into the computer and created a "node" graphic over it. I then tweaked and rearranged bits of the design here and there. I conveniently found a photo of a pot with a grid in the design. I was able to warp my design onto that grid so that it appeared to wrap around the pot. I was then able to layer that warped design onto my digitally-painted pot.
