This piece is an oil painting done for my Painting IIIB class. The assignment was to create a matching series for the semester. Because of my access to this abundant source material, I chose Neglected and Abused animals as the theme.
This dog had been left tied by his owner to a pole by a 2 1/2 ft cable. The dog had no shelter and didn't even have enough slack in his cable to lie down much less reach his water bowl for a drink. The dog had crawled out of the yard between the bottom of the fence and the top of the wall. Once on the other side, the dog's cable and collar got caught in the fencing. Unable to reach his front legs to the ground, the dog struggled against the wall until finally choking to death. A passersby unhooked the dog and called Animal Control.
